Education

Functional, beautiful, and innovative buildings that empathise with our school communities, local cultures and natural environment.

We work hard with schools, the Ministry of Education and local stakeholders to discover buildings that fit people, place and community. Our design excellence is thoughtful, and our buildings are useful and accessible by everyone. Our architecture is supported by our knowledge of our past, but is always looking at the future.

Located on Hagley Avenue in Christchurch, Hagley Community College operates in a cyclic learning environment, where the rolls operate from early morning to late evening classes. At any one time, a total not exceeding 900 pupils are on the campus, however, the school's maximum capacity is 1521 full-time students.

The two new buildings on the campus reflect the major pedagogical shift in the school, developing the two hub buildings where specialist subjects are joined together for project-based inquiry.

New Zealand’s first vertical and open plan school based in the heart of Christchurch.  The architecture places learning processes at the centre of the development, with the design of the school creating learning spaces that enable flexibility, focus, inspiration, and supports experiential and inquiry-based learning.

The innovative model for learning, places the student at the centre, allowing the building has been designed as a purposeful extension of this ethos, with no staff-specific spaces to enhance an equal relationship between students, teachers and other adults
